The Nature Conservancy is leading the way in restoring shellfish reefs which have been devastated by overharvesting, diseases and sedimentation.

Client
The Nature Conservancy

A milestone partnership between the Australian Government and The Nature Conservancy Australia (TNC) to restore shellfish reefs across Australia coasts provided a major opportunity to raise awareness of TNC and its reef restoration work.

The challenge

They called on Currie to quickly prepare materials and develop a launch plan with a Minister’s office.

Our work involved editing, distributing and pitching the news release.

Approach

We developed supporting materials that featured TNC’s Oceans Director who could not attend the launch due to COVID border closures.

These materials included audio grabs for radio and video that were packaged into a video news release with b-roll footage of the reefs.

Results

This great news story about bringing an ecosystem from the brink of extinction garnered widespread and positive media coverage of the announcement.

Coverage of the announcement through Australian online and broadcast media, as well as Twitter, reached 50 million people.

We are thrilled to continue working with TNC, providing media support for project announcements and media training for their project leaders.
